“I enjoy working with my hands.” – Thaís Suizo
David chose a size of 10 inches (height) x 7 inches (width) for the books in the series.
So, my first step is to measure the sheets of paper and cut them to the right size with a craft knife.
Ah! Can you see the little pencil in my hands? I love working with pencils when they’re really small. : )
I’m developing all the illustrations for the series in life-size, I do this so that the digitization comes out as well as possible.
I live in Brazil and David lives in Canada, so I send everything digitized to him.
I’m working on the series with Hahnemuhle 425 g/m² paper. I simply love working with this paper, and the high weight helps it absorb watercolor water well.
As you can see, in this video, I´m working at my kitchen table. I live with my husband, two teenage daughters, and two cats in a small apartment, so I often have one of them around.
The best part is, because I don’t have my own studio, I’ve learned to concentrate better and block out the hectic world around me. : )
